A 30-year-old man was yesterday picked up by the police in connection with an alleged hacking of telecommunications company Digicel’s database. According to reports, the hacker was able to access personal information, including text messages and voicemail, of thousands of Digicel customers. It is alleged that the hacker also made attempts to blackmail the company with the stolen information.

Digicel has released a statement saying it is unable to speak in detail on the matter at this time.

“Today there has been an important development in an ongoing investigation, in conjunction with the police, as a suspect has now been arrested,” a company spokesperson said. “Whilst we are pleased with this development, unfortunately we cannot comment further due to legal constraints that could compromise the ongoing police investigations.”

    So the previous case was resolved and he was found not guilty, or he was out on bail? And if he was out on bail, was there a bail condition that denied him access to a computing device, pending his trial? Law enforcement is way behind. Cyber-crime out of control.
