Tech tutorials, howtos and walkthroughs

So Electronic Entertainment Expo  2011 is over, and almost everybody didn’t disappoint. The annual video game conference and show at the Los Angeles Convention center was held over three days, this year and anyone who was anyone (with a few exceptions) was there from all sections of the video gaming industry. There was more info on expected titles, new titles announced and shown for the first time, new hardware revealed such as the Wii U and lots more. After following the show I put together the list below of the top news and Games from E3 2011, feel free to leave a comment if you agree or disagree and share your thoughts on this years show.

  • Nintendo Wii U Controller

You got to hand it to Nintendo, they really aren’t afraid to roll the dice and take a gamble and has done so from as far back as the Nintendo power glove and Vitual Boy. When Microsoft and Sony entrenched themself in a a HD powered box Nintendo had a different plan. The DS was a gamble, it worked, the Wii was a gamble it worked and now the Wii U is a gamble like no other. who knows, not everyone is convinced but it was the same with the Wii and we all know how big a success (for Nintendo) that turned out to be. The Wii U is coming whether you like it or not and judging from past results (Move and Kinect) don’t be surprised if you see touchscreens in the next Xbox or Playstation 4.

  • Playstation Vita Region Free and pricing

The Playstation 3 is region free and is a big reason why I’ll finally be picking on up this Christmas. The Playstation Vita is also almost 100% certain to be region free as well and this is big for people like me who’d want to import games from Japan which wouldn’t normally be released in the west. Then there is price, right int he $250-$300, same as the Nintendo 3DS but offers so much more in terms of functionality and looks.

  • Re-imagined Lara Croft

So from all gaming from a certain era or age group I had a mad gaming crush on Lara Croft. She was strong, she was beautiful and when she fired those pistols and climbed through caverns my heart raced. However something happen, the Tomb raider games got crappier and crappier and those movies are my excuse for hating Angelina Jolie. Fear not my fellow gamers, the first lady of video games in back!… well at least is coming back in 2012.

  • Microsoft’s crappy conference

The crappiest E3 2011 press conference by far Microsoft really disappointed me. Out of all the current consoles I have clocked the most miles with the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 conference was filled with Kinect spam, sequels and titles I have no interest in. I love Gears of War but it’s late, I’ve never seen the hype behind Halo, I never want to see another child actor on stage and everything that seemed interesting was also on the PS3. Not enough meat on ‘em bones Microsoft  I’m sorry, make up for it next year?

  • Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword

We knew it was coming but in Typical Nintendo fashion news was non-existent, well until E3 2011. Zelda fans can finally rejoice and look forward to the next epic quest in the series. Many people were wondering if due to the Wii running out of steam if Skyward Sword would just skip the system all together. THat was not to be and Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword looks as if it will be the final tripe A first party title for the Wii.

  • 3DS Games finally!

The Nintendo 3DS arrived in March but with a week launch game lineup and not much details on upcoming games many early adaptors were vocal about about the lack of software for the system. Nintendo answered their prayers and a big chuck of their E3 2011 conference was taking up by the 3DS and and the various new first party titles on the horizon like Kid Icarus Uprising, MarioKart 3DS,, Luigi’s Mansion and Super Mario 3DS.

  • Modern Warfare 3 vs Battlefield

The Call of Duty franchise is is a multi-platform first person shooting behemoth. Battlefield hasn’t quite been as big recently but with access to EA’s purse it is obvious from the gameplay videos, release dates and demos that Battlefield is looking to challenge MW3 for it’s crown. This can only be a good thing for gamers and I look forward to see who is on top when the dust clears.

  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The long running Elder Scrolls series of high fantasy action role playing games by Bethesda Game Studios is finally getting a full sequel in the form of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Skyrim is one of the games I was most excited to learn more about come E3 2011 and it surely didn’t disappoint, dragons, gameplay details and a slew of videos makes it’s release date of November 11, 2011 seems so far away.
